ERICE DOC: The present has ancient roots
Today the concept of wine and Sicily is a combination that represents quality all over the world. Our splendid island offers areas of land where the great vine-growing and wine-producing traditions mean that the wines produced here are of the highest standard of excellence. Among these areas is the countryside of Erice, Trapani, which thanks to the extraordinary characteristics of its climate and soil, and the oenological traditions and entrepreneurial skills of its inhabitants, has become one of Italy’s vine-growing and wine-producing territories and has the ideal elements for producing wines of extraordinary quality. All this has brought about the obtainment of the “Denominazione di Origine Controllata Erice”. Therefore, with the 2005 vintage, the wines produced in Erice and in some of the neighbouring areas may boast the DOC label. The production of the vineyards on which our company depends represents the most extensive part of the DOC area. This is yet a further guarantee of the qualification of our wines. In fact, production is subject to stringent regulations regarding both the area of production and the observance of production methods, from the management of the vineyards to the actual wine making and bottling processes. This small area on the hilly slopes surrounding the town of Erice was chosen for the unique characteristics of its soil, the altitude, the position, and the microclimate it enjoys due to its vicinity to the sea. The vineyards lie at a height of between 250 and 500 metres. The production per hectare is rigid and varies according to the types of vine grown there. The wine produced from these grapes conveys the heat of the sun, and the aromas and fragrances unique to this part of Sicily. |
